How To Play Roulette

The end goal of roulette should be to select the winning number that ends up showing up on the roulette wheel. It’s also possible to bet mixtures of different numbers or even opt for the color or whether it is odd or even. It may well sound straightforward, but all is not as simple as it at first seems.

The Wheel

There are two distinct types of wheel in the roulette world; the European wheel features 37 slots which are numbered 0-36, and the house edge in this case is precisely 2.63 percent. The American variant offers more numbers (38 to be exact) but the extra slot is for the casino’s benefit as it is another zero, in this case known as the double zero (00). Incorporating this additional slot boosts the house edge to a much more profitable 5.26 percent.

The Layout

The overall game known as roulette arose in France during the middle of the 19th century, with various studies pinning it down to around 1842. Roulette layouts have in effect two wagering locations; the interior gambling region features the individual numbers, and the outside includes boxes for the columns, red/black and odd/even and different groups of numbers.

The numbers internally are organized in twelve rows of three, this forming three vertical columns. The 0 and 00 are in the top of the columns.

Buying In

You will need to obtain specific roulette chips if you wish to play. To protect from any potential disagreements, casinos will often insist that each player is provided with a uniquely colored chip. These chips can only be played on that particular table, and you must cash them in when you are finished, at which point you’ll then be provided with regular casino chips to take to the cashier.

Each and every roulette table incorporates a minimum and maximum wager. You are not able to blend your interior and exterior wagers to satisfy the table’s minimum amount, and should the minimum wager be five dollars, then you will be required to wager 5 dollars inside and 5 dollars outside. You are not allowed to bet different figures in and out, for example 1 and 4.

Inside Bets

Split Bet is a gamble on two numbers and it will pay 17 to 1 odds. You place this bet by positioning your chip so that it straddles the line in between any two numbers.

There are several inside bets that you can make. You can bet a number straight up or straddle the line between numbers to select a combination of numbers. The payouts are as follows:

Street Bets or Line Bet pays odds at 11 to 1. You can place this wager by settling your chip down on the vertical line breaking up the outside and inside wagering regions. The chip straddles the first number in the row.

Straight Up bet is a wager on one individual number. It pays odds at 35 to 1.

Corner Bet or Quad Bet pays 8 to 1. You create this bet by locating a chip so that it is in contact with the four corners of the numbers you are betting on.

Double Street Bet is a bet on 6 numbers and pays odds of 5 to 1. You set your chip down on the line isolating the outside and inside area just like you do for the street bet but let it also straddle the row above or below.

Basket Bet is a five number bet on zero – double zero and numbers-1-2-3 which pays 6 to 1. On the double zero wheel it has a house edge of 7.89 percent making it the worst possible bet in roulette.

Outside Bets

The outside bets are any of the bets made in the boxes surrounding the numbers.

Red Black Odd and Even are all even money bets. You place your chips in the boxes on the layout.

Dozens bet are made on the 12 consecutive numbers. You place your wager in the boxes marked 1-12, 13-24 or 25-36. These bets pay 2 to 1. If the zero or double zero comes up, then you lose.

Column bets are also 12 number bets. Instead of 12 consecutive numbers they consist of the numbers in one of the three vertical columns and are made in the boxes at the bottom of the layout. These bets pay 2 to 1 as well.

The Dealer

Dealers are required to keep the wheel moving at all times, even between spins. They spin the ball in the opposite in the opposite direction of the wheel. This causes the ball to jump and spin before landing on a number.

The dealer marks the winning number with a marker. You are not allowed to place your bet for the next spin until the dealer removes the marker from the previous winning number. Make sure you wait for them to pick it up before putting down your chips.

Playing Tips

If you wish to know how to win at roulette then you will need to know a few fundamental pieces of information. Roulette has a high house edge but if you play at a full table you will only get about 30 spins an hour which slows down the time your money is exposed to the house edge. It will also increase your comp time.

If the number you want to bet is covered is already covered with chips, don’t worry. It is permissible to stack you chips on top of the other chips. This is another reason why each player has their own color chips.

You are allowed to place bets after the dealer spins the ball. The dealer will tell you when to stop. As the ball slows down the dealer will wave their hand over the table and call out “No More Bets.”

Some people claim that they have a sure fire system for winning at Roulette, but the truth is there is no system that will change the house edge. Don’t waste your money buying a roulette system.
